Jotun Paints have been manufacturing paint in Flixborough for many years.
Delaney Marling Partnership Ltd were asked to assist with a project to undertake a feasibility study and specification for the refurbishments of the offices.
The client had a utilised the services of a contractor they had been engaged with for a number of years.
On a previous project the contractor had delivered a scheme they had thought fulfilled the clients brief but in truth it had not, with a number of issues arising from the works.
DMP surveyed the two storey office block and provided a specification, and drawings that were agreed with the client.
The specification included works to refurbish/ reconfigure the existing office provision to create more space. In addition works included the refurbishment of the fire detection systems/air conditioning in keeping with the requirements of the companies insurance requirements.
A Building Regulation application was also made to the local authority to cover all aspects of the project.
Tender Documents were produced and sent out to four contractors locally including the contractor that Jotun had utilised for a period of time.
The tender returns were evaluated in a number of areas and the results showed the retained contractor to be over £30,000 in excess of the cheapest contractor (the other three contractors costs were within 5% of each other).
This enabled the client to realise a saving should they have engaged the services of their retained contractor.
